THE FIELD RESEARCH:

The Bus Shelter is in the center of our daily life and of our cities. This is a waiting place, a landmark, a meeting point but also a communication space.

Unfortunately, there are sometimes victim of numerous assault. Our field research has revealed that a lot of people felt unsafe at this place mainly during the night.
That is why our goal was to create a living and interactive bus shelter. We wanted to develop a real connexion between this daily place and his users but also with the city.

CONCEPT

To create a real interaction with the users, we decided to personify the bus shelter. That is why we have created a virtual character called: ABR-I.
ABR-I is the bus shelter’s virtual identity. He is represented through a screen. Many sensors of pressure and of distance are placed on the ceiling. They enable to connect the bus shelter and the users by a sensory way.
ABR-I can be downloading through an app. It will enable to the users to get directly in touch with the virtual identity. He will communicate all the events of the city around him.
There will be several virtual identities for several bus shelters in the city. The different ABR-Is have each their own personality.
When you are waiting your bus, you could also play a game with your ABR-I in competition with the others users of another ABR-I.
By giving life to the bus shelter, we also tried to change the users habits. As the shelter is alive and interacts to each movement against his wall, it will limit the assault. It could also reassure the night users when there are alone and worried.
